Hot And Spicy Oregano
Botanical name: Origanum ‘Hot And Spicy’
This variety is noted for its intense, spicy flavour and aroma; does well in sandy loam, good heat and drought tolerance; a spicy addition to the herb garden, and is also attractive in containers.
Hot And Spicy Oregano features tiny pink trumpet-shaped flowers in mid summer. Its small fragrant round leaves emerge chartreuse in spring, turning grayish green in color the rest of the year.
This is an herbaceous evergreen perennial herb with a mounded form. It brings an extremely fine and delicate texture to the garden composition and should be used to full effect. This is a relatively low maintenance plant, and should be cut back in late fall in preparation for winter. It is a good choice for attracting bees and butterflies to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. Its foliage tends to remain dense right to the ground, not requiring facer plants in front. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 5 years.
This plant can be integrated into a landscape or flower garden by creative gardeners, but is usually grown in a designated herb garden. It should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with very well-drained soil, and will often die in standing water.
