Autumn Sneezeweed

Botanical name: Helenium autumnale

A cheery Texas native, that produces numerous yellow, daisy-like flower heads with fan-shaped petals, perfect for pollinator-friendly, cut-flower gardens, and rain gardens; special value to many native long-tongued and short-tongued bees.

Ornamental Features

Autumn Sneezeweed features A winged stem bearing numerous yellow, daisy-like flower heads with fan-shaped petals. Enjoy an abundance of blooms from June through October.

Landscape Attributes

Autumn Sneezeweed spread by forming clumps that can be divided. The seeds can be saved, but they have low germination rates.

It attracts a number of pollinators such as bees, beetles, butterflies, flies, moths, skippers, and wasps. As well as many native long-tongued and short-tongued bees. Autumn Sneezeweed is a host plant for the larvae of the painted lady and dainty sulphur butterflies, as well the larvae of the rigid sunflower borer moth.

Autumn Sneezeweed is recommended for the following landscape applications;

Cut-Flower Gardens, Rain Gardens, Wet Meadows, General Garden Use, Naturalizing and Woodland Gardens

Planting and Growing

Autumn Sneezeweed will grow to be only 3-5ft tall at maturity, with a spread of 2-3ft wide. A reliable and showy native perennial flower that have a high disease resistance and tolerant to many soil conditions aside from very dry or very wet.

This plant should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers requires a damp site, clay soil. It is considered to be an ideal choice for a rain gardens and pollinator-friendly gardens. Can be found growing in moist, open areas along streams & ponds; wet meadows.
