Add some beauty to your home with our cool season favorite – cyclamen. These pretty annuals are just the right amount of color to brighten up your garden beds and containers. Their scented blooms in a variety of colors are a must have during the holiday season!
Cyclamen have long-stalked, roundish leaves that are often described as ballerina skirts. The plants grow from a short underground stem, called a tuber, and have no stem aboveground. Caring for a cyclamen is a breeze! These low maintenance flowers are pest resistant and can be indoor or outdoor plants since they are native to Europe and the Mediterranean and tolerant of cold climates. As for sun requirements, shade to dapple morning sunlight is best, while indoors we recommend placing them in bright light near a window.
Learn more about how to properly care for your cyclamen to look its best while in season.
Bring on the winter blooms! If you long for spring daffodils during the bleak days of winter, paperwhites are a close relative.
Paperwhites grow so fast, it is a thrill to watch their daily progress from bulb to flower. They are best grown indoors from late fall through late winter, so depending on how often you plant them, you can have paperwhites blooming all winter long! Their fragrance is divine and can add a nice holiday touch to your living space. When planted indoors, choose a container with good drainage. Add several inches of growing mix and settle the bulbs in place. Keep the top quarter of the bulb above the soil surface and water sparingly until the bulbs have developed roots and are growing well.
Keep in mind paperwhites are sensitive to cold temperatures, so don’t let the bulbs freeze! If you plan to store them for later, place them in a ventilated plastic bag in a dark cool area to keep the bulbs from drying out. Chimineas & Piñon Wood
It’s firepit season! We love adding chimineas to any patio or porch. Gather your friends and family and enjoy the cooler months with these beautiful garden accent pieces that will be sure to make your outdoor space a place to gather.
Why do we love chimineas? They are specially made to keep smoke from drifting into your face while warming you and they can even be used during a light rain shower without the water extinguishing the flames.
Remember to pick up your piñon wood for your new chiminea. Our locally made piñon wood is a pleasant-smelling softwood that is a great addition to any chiminea or fire pit as it is known to be very dense, burns much longer than other softwoods, and is a natural mosquito and flying insect repellant.
Outdoor Christmas Decor
Add a piece of personality to your garden or patio this fall!
Think of statuary as a way to elevate the look of your garden with something other than plants. Our new holiday statuary pieces are the perfect touch for a more elevated look. Blend the pieces into your garden, place them by your front door, or build around them as your focal point. The possibilities are endless!
One of our favorite parts about statuary is its durability. Unlike other seasonal decor items, you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged from rain. Reuse them year after year for seasonal fun in the garden. With statuary, you’re one step closer to having a botanical garden in your backyard!
As some of Santa’s helpers, we have plenty of holiday decor and statuary to make your garden just as festive! Take a stroll through the garden center and find ceramic gingerbread men, trees, and snowmen or metal holiday statuary that spotlight our favorite holiday characters like the Grinch and Rudolph the red-nose reindeer!
It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit!
